VENTURE CAPITAL FOR AGRIBUSINESS PROJECTS

Small Farmers’ Agribusiness Consortium, Ministry of Agriculture, is implementing the schemes of project development facility and venture capital assistance for development of agribusiness in the country in association with commercial banks.

Highlights

1. Venture Capital: To promote private investments in agri-business projects engaged in value addition of crops with the participation of commercial banks and state level SFAC’s.

         1. Equity participation in agribusiness projects upto 10% of the total
            project cost, or 26% of the total project equity or Rs.75 lakhs whichever
            is lower.

         2. In special cases, higher amount of venture capital assistance can be
            considered for value addition for agribusiness projects located in hilly
            and North Eastern States agencies/ State SFAC’s.

2.  Project Development Facility (PDF) :  To provide financial assistance to agripreneurs, farmers and Producer Groups for the preparation of bankable Detailed Project Reports (DPR) on a case to case basis.

3. Eligibility Criteria for funding

  1. Value addition projects should be in agriculture or allied sector like horticulture, apiculture, medicinal and aromatic plants, spices, cashew nut, coconut and fisheries etc. excluding poultry and dairy projects.
  2. Project should provide assured market to farmers/ producer groups.

c)  Cost of proposed projects must be of Rs. 50 lakhs in general and Rs. 25 lakhs in case of NE states and other hilly areas.
d)  Project must encourage farmers to diversify into high value crops, to increase farm incomes.

  1. Project should be accepted by banks for grant of term loan.

4. Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with Commercial Banks for smooth implementation of the scheme.
